Short bio

Scotty Roberts is an author, illustrator and creative director from the Minneapolis and Saint Paul advertising world. The First Twelve Days is his memoir of the illness, amputation and divorce that arrived all at once, and of what he chose to build afterward.

Long bio

Scotty Roberts (Scott Alan Roberts) has spent decades telling stories for a living. He is a creative and art director, illustrator, designer, photographer and writer of fiction and nonfiction, and he has worked for years in the advertising world of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.

He writes both fiction and nonfiction, and in his own words he is also a rogue historian, a rapscallion theologian, an adventurer and a father of six.

Then a long illness ended in the amputation of his leg and left him fighting for every breath, while his marriage was coming apart in the same season. The First Twelve Days, published in December 2025, is the record of those first twelve days and of a man choosing to rebuild.

Book description

When life collapsed without warning, Scotty Roberts found himself fighting for every breath. A long illness ended in the amputation of his leg. His mobility went with it, his marriage began to slip away, and he woke up in a body and a world he barely recognized.

These are the first twelve days of that journey. Twelve days that changed his life for good. Twelve days that forced him to face who he was, who he had been, and who he would become.

Told with raw honesty, poetic grit and a voice shaped by decades of storytelling, The First Twelve Days is about losing almost everything and still choosing to rise.
